SELF DISCIPLINE

SELF DISCIPLINE
According to Collins English dictionary; Discipline is the practice of making people
obey rules or standards of behaviour, and punishing them when they do not.
Also according to Cambridge English dictionary Discipline is the ability to control yourself or other people even in difficult conditions.

Jim Rohn once said, “discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.” What do you think he meant by that?
This quote really applies to everyone. No matter if you are an entrepreneur, an executive, a teacher, a doctor, a musician, etc., we all have goals we want to reach.
If you don’t have goals, your life will lack that sense of purpose. You won’t be able to accomplish much because of your lack of a defined goal. So, I encourage you, if you haven’t already, to define them.
Then, use the meaning of this quote by Jim Rohn to turn those goals into accomplishments that you can be proud of and improve your life with.

"DISCIPLINE IS DOING WHAT YOU DON'T WANT TO DO IN PURSUIT OF WHAT YOU WANT".
The bridge between where you are today, and where you want to be tomorrow is discipline.
Years ago, a wise teacher told his student that discipline is the bridge between where I am today and where I want to be tomorrow. He said that without discipline, nothing is possible. He taught the student that discipline means doing those things others are not willing to do; hanging in there long after everyone else has let go and given up; doing what’s uncomfortable until it becomes comfortable.

Actually discipline means the following:
***To turn off the TV and to pick up and read the right books.
**To surround yourself with the right people and to disassociate or spend less time with negative influences.
**To place yourself in the right environments, like the library, rather than the local pub.
***To park your car farthest away from my destination and to walk up stairs for better cardiovascular health.
***To value differences, and to understand and respect other peoples’ points of view, rather than fight and argue over them and regret actions later.
****To be happy with all that you have in pursuit of all that you want.

THE OPPOSITE OF DISCIPLINE IS NEGLECT.
According to Cambridge dictionary, Neglect refer to not give enough care or attention to people or things that are your responsibility. Neglect is the situation of one not to fulfill his or her responsibilities.
Discipline leads to achievement while neglect leads to regret, because in order to get achievement you must fulfill your responsibilities on the right time. It seems that one discipline always leads to another, which leads to another, and then to all sorts of great achievements. However, the same holds true for neglect: one neglect leads to another, which leads to others;  and soon you have the health you don’t want, the relationships you don’t want, the career you don’t want, the friends you don’t want, and a life you don’t want. Neglect starts out as an infection, and soon it becomes a full blown disease that has you in its grip and won’t let go… until discipline comes to cure this disease.
An American Football coach that never had a loosing season, The great Vince Lombardi (1913-1970) said,
“Discipline and mental toughness are many things and rather difficult to explain. Its qualities are sacrifice and self-denial, and most importantly, it’s combined with a perfectly disciplined WILL that refuses to give in.”

Set goals and plans to achieve maximum self discipline. If you hope to achieve self-discipline, you must have a clear vision of what you hope to accomplish. You must also have an understanding of what success means to you. After all, if you don’t know where you are going, it’s easy to lose your way.
A clear plan outlines each step you must take in order to reach your goals. Figure out who you are and what you are looking for. Create a frame work to keep yourself focused. Successful people use this technique to stay on track and establish a clear finish line.
Remember that, We are not born with self-discipline--it is a learned behavior. And just like any other skill you want to master, it requires daily practice and repetition. Self-discipline requires a lot of work, the effort and focus. As time passes, it can become more and more difficult to keep your willpower in check. The bigger the temptation or decision, the more challenging it can feel to tackle other tasks that also require self-control. So work on building your self-discipline through daily diligence.

There are things you can do to learn self-discipline and accomplish your goals.  If you are looking to take control of your habits and choices,
The following are the seven (7) most powerful things you can do to master self-discipline:

1.Identify your weaknesses.
No one is perfect, We all have weaknesses. Acknowledge your shortcomings, whatever they may be. Too often people either try to pretend their vulnerabilities don’t exist or cover up any pitfalls in their lives. You can’t overcome them until you do. Bear with your weaknesses and find out how you can overcome.

2. Avoid temptations.
Like the saying goes, “out of sight, out of mind.” This phrase is very true and will remain true all the time. By staying away from your biggest temptations you will greatly improve your self-discipline.
For example, If you want to eat healthier , toss the junk food in the trash. If you want to improve your productivity at work, turn off social media notifications and silence your cell phone. The fewer distractions you have, the more focused you will be on accomplishing your goals. Get away of any enfluences that will affect your concentration in your effort to accomplish your goals.

3.Create new habits by keeping it simple.
Acquiring self-discipline and working to instill a new habit might be very challenging at first, especially if you focus on the entire task at hand. To avoid feeling intimidated, keep it simple. Break your goal into small, attainable goals. Instead of trying to change everything at once, focus on doing one thing consistently and master self-discipline with that goal in mind.
For example, If you’re trying to get in shape, start by working out 10 or 15 minutes a day. If you’re trying to achieve better sleep habits, start by going to bed 15 minutes earlier each night. Eventually, when you’re ready, you can add more goals to your list.

4.Have good eating behavior.
Eat  healthy and have regular eating timetable. The feeling of being hangry--that angry, annoyed, irritated sensation you get when you’re hungry—is real and can have a substantial impact on willpower. Research has proven that low blood sugar often weakens a person’s resolve, making you pessimistic.
When you are hungry, your ability to concentrate is affected and your brain doesn’t function as well. Your self-control is likely weakened in all areas, including diet, exercise, work and relationships. So fuel up with healthy snacks and regular meals to keep yourself in good mood so that you can make right decision.

5. Have the backup plans.
Suggest the possible solutions to the problems which you might encounter in your plans of building self discipline.
Psychologists use a technique to boost willpower called “implementation intention.” That’s when you give yourself a plan to deal with a potentially difficult situation you know you will likely face. For instance, imagine that you’re working on eating healthier, but you’re on your way to a party where food will be served.
Before you go, tell yourself that instead of taking a plate of full of meat, you will sip a glass of water and focus on mingling. Going in with a plan will help give you the mindset and the self-control necessary for the situation. You will also save energy by not having to make a sudden decision based on your emotional state.

6. Motivate  yourself.
Give yourself something to be excited about by planning a reward when you accomplish your goals. This give you power and encouragement to try harder after accomplishment of each step.
Anticipation is powerful. It gives you something to focus on, so you’re not only thinking of what you are trying to change but also you are thinking of how you will be happy after accomplishing your goals.. And when you achieve your goal, find a new goal and a new reward to keep yourself moving forward.

7.Forgive yourself and move forward.
It is not that every thing you plan you will fulfill it correctly as planned, you sometimes fall short. It happens. You will have ups and downs, successes and failures. The key is to keep moving forward, don't look on how great the mistakes you have done, Forgive yourself and move forward.
If you stumble, acknowledge what caused it and move on. Don’t let yourself get wrapped up in guilt, anger or frustration, because these emotions will only pull you back and impede your future progress. Learn from your mistakes and forgive yourself. Then get your head back in the game and refocus on your goals.

"Don’t give in to neglect; and let discipline be your ally for life".

Nothing good come with easy, In order to reach great achievements you must do what does not prease you, and this is possible only if you have discipline.

Even if you have big and good goals you will not achieve it unless you have big discipline along the way.

Indiscipline actions of others will not prevent you from reaching your success, but your own indiscipline actions will Prevent your own achievement.

Teach you mind the discipline.
